Ras Turner in Ariel has taken a commanding lead in the eight-strong Clipper '96 round the world race after winning the leg from Yokohama to Shanghai. Second overall is Mermerus, with Taeping third.

Mike Golding's Group 4 is in a good position to control the BT Challenge fleet as he heads for the Kerguelen Islands on the fourth leg from Sydney to Cape Town. Second is Chris Tibbs in Concert, with Simon Walker third in Toshiba.
