Azeri rebels pledged allegiance to the acting president, Gaidar Aliyev, ending a month-long insurrection that triggered a political crisis, AFP reports from Moscow.

Under an agreement signed by the rebel leader, Suret Guseinov, and the acting president, who is the former Communist Party boss, the renegade troops are to withdraw from positions near the capital, Baku. They will then be reincorporated into the army, to help fight against the Armenians in the Nagorny Karabakh enclave.
