Drought-stricken water companies are being urged to consider building desalination plants to avert future shortages. The suggestion is one of several in a report from the National Rivers Authority to the Secretary of State for the Environment on how companies facing the worst shortages - North West, Yorkshire and South West - should combat the problem.
