Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk condemned the racist abuse aimed at Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo during their recent match, labelling it a "disgrace".
The 4-2 win was briefly paused in the first half at Anfield after referee Anthony Taylor reported a complaint made by Semenyo.
Liverpool FC issued a statement condemning racism and discrimination, with Merseyside Police and the Premier League now investigating the incident.
Van Dijk stressed the need to educate the next generation to combat racism, acknowledging that existing campaigns have not eradicated the issue.
Semenyo, who scored two goals in the match, later shared another racist message he received on Instagram, questioning when such abuse would cease.
