Donald Trump’s Turnberry golf course will not host the British Open in the near future, according to the R&A’s new chief executive, Mark Darbon.
The primary reasons for Turnberry not hosting are significant logistical challenges, including transportation and infrastructure issues, rather than political considerations.
Turnberry has not been removed from the list of potential British Open venues, and the R&A has held constructive discussions with Trump Golf representatives.
The R&A maintains that the decision on where to stage the Open rests solely with them, independent of any influence from the British government.
The R&A prioritises courses capable of accommodating large crowds and modern Open requirements, a factor also affecting other Scottish courses like Muirfield.
