Rory McIlroy's wife, Erica, had a drink thrown over her by a USA fan during a chaotic day two of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.
McIlroy praised his wife for her "class and dignity" in handling the abuse, stating that such behaviour should be "off-limits".
Teammates Justin Rose and Shane Lowry also highlighted the astonishing amount of abuse Erica received while supporting her husband and the European team.
Europe secured a 15-13 victory over Keegan Bradley’s side, marking their fifth away Ryder Cup win.
McIlroy expressed satisfaction that Europe's away victory "shut a lot of people up" after previous comments about American dominance.
