Why Rob McElhenney is filing to legally change his name
Ryan Reynolds teaches people how to pronounce Rob McElhenney's name
Actor Rob McElhenney has filed legal documents in Los Angeles to officially change his name to Rob Mac.
The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator and star made the decision due to concerns that his original surname is difficult to pronounce in “other regions of the world.”
McElhenney's company, More Better Productions, is expanding its investments into South America, where he believes his multi-syllabic name could hinder business negotiations.
He had already been using Rob Mac in business dealings for several weeks prior to the official filing.
While some relatives supported the change, his wife Kaitlin Olson noted their two sons were unhappy about the decision as they share the original surname.
