Zaanse Schans, a historic Dutch village north of Amsterdam, will introduce a €17.50 entry fee for visitors from spring 2026.
The charge aims to reduce the significant visitor footfall, which reached 2.6 million in 2024, and address issues of residents' privacy.
The pre-booked ticket will include access to the local museum and windmill interiors, which currently charge for entry individually.
Funds generated from the entry fee will be allocated towards windmill maintenance and essential infrastructure upgrades, including parking and toilets.
This initiative reflects broader concerns about mass tourism in the Netherlands, with Amsterdam also facing a lawsuit from campaigners over its failure to curb visitor numbers.
