Eli Lilly is developing a new oral weight-loss pill, Orforglipron, which may be available in the UK next year.
The pill will offer an alternative to current injectable weight-loss medications like Mounjaro, appealing to those who dislike needles.
Stage 3 trials for Orforglipron showed an average weight reduction of 10.5 per cent, comparable to the effectiveness of Mounjaro injections.
Eli Lilly's international president, Patrik Jonsson, said that the UK will be one of the first countries to receive the pill, subject to regulatory approval, potentially by 2026.
The company also envisions a future 'once-and-done' treatment for obesity, a single shot that could offer a permanent cure.
