Zelensky set for ‘intense’ meetings over Ukraine’s future
Zelensky arrives with First Lady in New York
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in New York with First Lady Olena Zelenska for the UN General Assembly summit and a week of intense meetings.
Zelensky's visit aims to appeal for sanctions against Russia, bolster support for Ukraine, and discuss the return of Ukrainian children and the Crimea Platform Summit.
His arrival follows recent Russian missile attacks in Odesa and Ukrainian drone interceptions near Moscow, with nearly two dozen meetings scheduled, including with US President Donald Trump.
Donald Trump has maintained contact with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and believes he would need to mediate between Zelensky and Putin due to their mutual animosity.
There are currently no plans for a meeting between Putin and Zelensky, while Russia has offered the US an extension to a nuclear deal.
