  • President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose a 100 per cent tariff on all foreign computer chips entering the United States.
  • The levy was revealed during a meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook in the Oval Office.
  • It is expected to increase the cost of electronic goods and household appliances and will apply to all countries.
  • However, companies that have committed to or are currently building chip manufacturing facilities within the US will be exempt from the tariff.
