  • US President Donald Trump has suggested that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer should deploy the military to tackle small boat crossings in the English Channel.
  • In making the suggestion during his second state visit, Mr Trump drew parallels with his administration's approach to migration.
  • Tech Secretary Peter Kyle said that the Royal Navy can be called upon to assist with border security "if needed", but emphasised that the UK Border Force is the primary agency.
  • Mr Kyle said that the military's main focus is on global issues related to national defence, while maintaining a functional relationship with Border Force.
  • Mr Trump claimed his administration prevented "millions" of people from entering the US, arguing that unchecked migration "destroys countries from within".
