Theresa May raises concern over lack of safeguards in Assisted Dying Bill
Theresa May opposes Assisted Dying Bill over safeguarding concerns
Theresa May has opposed the Assisted Dying Bill during its first debate in the House of Lords on Friday, 12 September.
She argues the legislation lacks sufficient safeguards, fearing it could pressure individuals to end their lives, especially if they feel they are a burden.
May expressed concern that the bill could negatively impact people with disabilities and mental health problems, reinforcing the idea that some lives are less valuable.
She also suggested the bill, which would allow assisted dying for terminally ill adults in England and Wales, might be used to conceal medical mistakes.
