Minister’s jet experiences GPS disturbance near Russian city
Trump backs shooting down of Russian jets if they enter NATO airspace
A Spanish military jet, carrying Defence Minister Margarita Robles, experienced a GPS disturbance near Russia's Kaliningrad exclave on Wednesday.
The aircraft was en route to Lithuania as part of a NATO air defence mission, which recently intercepted Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
The Spanish Defence Ministry confirmed the incident but stated the plane's encrypted system prevented it from being affected, adding that such occurrences are common in the region.
This event follows a similar incident on 31 August, where a plane carrying European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had its GPS jammed, an act Bulgarian authorities suspected was due to Russian interference.
Estonia and Finland have also accused Russia of GPS jamming in the region's airspace, though Russia denies interfering with communication and satellite networks.
