Royal Mail announces new postage service in major change

Royal Mail rolls out ‘postboxes of the future’ across UK
  • Royal Mail has launched new postal delivery duties paid (PDDP) services for customers sending parcels to the United States.
  • This initiative follows a US executive order, effective from August 29, which removes the import duty exemption for goods valued at $800 or less.
  • Royal Mail will now handle the payment of duties to US customs authorities, a change from previous rules where low-value items were duty-free.
  • A 50p handling charge will be added per parcel to cover the additional costs associated with providing these new customs clearance services.
  • Gifts valued under $100 and standard letters or cards that do not require a customs declaration will remain exempt from the new duties.
