  • More than 70 passengers and one crew member on Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas cruise ship have fallen ill with Norovirus symptoms.
  • The outbreak was reported to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Sunday, ahead of the ship's final stop in Miami.
  • Symptoms included diarrhoea and vomiting, affecting less than 4 per cent of the 1,874 passengers and 883 crew on board.
  • In response, the crew implemented increased cleaning and disinfecting procedures, collected specimens, and isolated those who were sick.
  • This incident marks the 19th gastrointestinal outbreak on a cruise ship this year, with Norovirus being the cause of 14 of these.
