Mysterious fin spotted lurking in River Thames in London
London's River Thames is poised to gain its first official bathing spot, signifying a “vast transformation” in its water quality, according to officials.
This is one of 13 new designated swimming locations proposed by the government across England, including sites in Devon, Kent and Yorkshire.
The designation means these locations will undergo regular water quality testing, providing the public with vital information on safety for swimming and water sports.
The government's plans aim to increase England's official bathing sites to 464 beaches, coastal stretches, rivers and lakes.
The 13 proposed sites are currently out for consultation, with the government reforming the system to include more flexible monitoring dates and expand the definition of “bather”.
