Prince Harry has joined advocates like Charlize Theron and Magic Johnson in a new UNAIDS film, highlighting the severe impact of recent funding cuts on HIV and Aids programmes.
The film, shown at a United Nations assembly, urges global leaders to recommit to eradicating Aids by 2030, warning that current progress is in jeopardy.
Harry said that "drastic cuts" are already hindering HIV prevention and treatment, potentially causing six million new infections and four million Aids-related deaths between 2025-2029 if funding is not restored.
The Duke continues the legacy of his mother Princess Diana, who famously challenged HIV/Aids stigma by shaking hands with a patient without gloves in 1987.
Harry said that high-burden countries are already facing shortages of health workers and data collectors due to these cuts, leading to issues like babies being born with HIV.
