Met makes 100 arrests ahead of Notting Hill Carnival in bid to deter trouble
Metropolitan Police have arrested 100 people and conducted intelligence-led interventions to enhance safety at Notting Hill Carnival.
These operations resulted in 21 individuals being recalled to prison, the seizure of 11 firearms and over 40 knives, and 266 people being barred from attending.
Commander Charmain Brenyah stated the policing plan prioritises tackling serious violence, aiming to deter criminality among the expected one million attendees.
Live Facial Recognition technology will be deployed, despite concerns from the Equality and Human Rights Commission regarding its potential impact on individuals' rights.
Additional security measures include screening arches and stop-and-search powers at entry points, with intelligence shared nationally to identify and ban violent gangs, following two murders at last year's event.
