Six beach houses in Buxton, North Carolina, part of the Outer Banks, collapsed on Tuesday due to storm surges from Hurricanes Humberto and Imelda.
Five of the homes, built on stilts, fell within 45 minutes of each other, with a sixth collapsing later that night.
No injuries were reported as all the properties were unoccupied at the time of their collapse.
These collapses bring the total number of homes lost along the Outer Banks this year to 18.
Large waves are forecast to continue for several days, posing extremely dangerous conditions and the potential for further structural collapses, with officials warning visitors to avoid hazardous debris.
