Terror charge against Kneecap band member thrown out by court
Technical error sees Kneecap rapper’s terror charge dismissed
- The terrorism case against Kneecap rapper Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, known as Mo Chara, has been dismissed by a judge.
- The 27-year-old musician was charged in May for allegedly displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah, a proscribed organisation, at a gig in London.
- At Woolwich Crown Court on Friday, chief magistrate Paul Goldspring ruled the proceedings unlawful and null due to a technical error.
- The necessary consent from the Director of Public Prosecutions and Attorney General was not obtained within the six-month statutory time limit, he said.
- Mr Ó hAnnaidh had denied the offence, labelling it “political policing” and a “carnival of distraction” from the war in Gaza, which Kneecap has vocally opposed.
