'Death is better than displacement': Gaza City mothers say hunger blocks escape of looming Israeli offensive
Palestinian mothers say severe hunger is preventing them from moving from Gaza City, as Israel has warned that the city will be destroyed unless Hamas agrees to its terms.
On Friday, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) said that famine is currently occurring in Gaza City, which is home to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
The IPC further warned that the famine could spread south to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis by the end of September.
Displaced Palestinian women, including Rabiha Abu Odeh, have stated they have nowhere to go and are too weak from lack of food and water to move, saying: “Death is better than displacement”.
