Wildfire breaks out in London amid latest heatwave warning
The UK has experienced an unprecedented summer with four consecutive heatwaves, making it “almost certainly” the hottest on record, the Met Office has confirmed.
Temperatures reached 29.1C in Hawarden and 24.5C in Magilligan over the bank holiday, setting new records for Wales and Northern Ireland, respectively.
The Met Office confirms a transition to an unsettled weather pattern for the coming days, with cooler temperatures and frequent showers expected into September.
This change is partly due to a low-pressure system caused by the remnants of Hurricane Erin, leading to a mobile westerly regime with little signal for further warmth.
While another heatwave in 2025 is unlikely, climate experts predict extreme weather events like this summer's heatwaves will become more common due to ongoing climate change.
