How Brits aim to avoid turning on their heating this winter
Martin Lewis issues October warning over energy bills
More than two million UK households, a 22 per cent increase from last year, are preparing to face winter without central heating due to escalating energy bills.
This issue affects one in ten solo residents and five per cent of families with young children, with over half of those struggling attributing it to the rising cost of living.
Many are resorting to alternative methods such as wearing extra layers, using hot water bottles, or portable heaters to keep warm, while 77 per cent are worried about being cold.
Energy experts advise against going without heating due to health risks and potential dampness, recommending thermostat settings between 18C and 21C, and suggesting cost-effective alternatives like electric blankets and home insulation.
The government is providing support, including an expanded Warm Home Discount and investment in home energy efficiency, to help households manage energy costs this winter.
