A one-year-old baby girl, Sanaa Mansour al-Lahham, died in Gaza in July due to prolonged nutritional deficiency and a lack of baby formula, according to the charity Humanity & Inclusion.
UN figures from July indicated nearly 12,000 children under five in Gaza had acute malnutrition, with over 2,500 suffering from severe malnutrition, numbers likely to be an undercount.
The global hunger monitor, Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), declared that nearly a quarter of Palestinians in Gaza, 514,000 people, are now experiencing famine.
Humanity & Inclusion highlighted that Sanaa's condition deteriorated despite initial improvements from physiotherapy, underscoring the severe impact of the conflict on vulnerable populations.
The charity warns of a "manmade crisis" leading to a generation with lifelong disabilities due to malnutrition, calling for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian aid access.
