Charity reveals extent of malnutrition among mothers in Gaza
Inside Gaza’s deepening food crisis
Nearly half of pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in Gaza are suffering from severe malnutrition, according to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
The deepening hunger crisis has led to 154 reported deaths from famine, including 89 children, with a health worker describing treating severely malnourished children surviving on minimal food.
The UN reports that over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured attempting to access food at Israeli militarised aid distribution sites.
Aid organisations face significant challenges, including the forced closure of medical points and a lack of therapeutic supplements, while healthcare workers themselves are experiencing malnutrition.
MAP is urging world leaders, including the UK, to urgently intervene, stating that Israel's siege and military offensive are destroying the health system and starving the population.
