Charity reveals extent of malnutrition among mothers in Gaza

Inside Gaza’s deepening food crisis
  • Nearly half of pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in Gaza are suffering from severe malnutrition, according to Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
  • The deepening hunger crisis has led to 154 reported deaths from famine, including 89 children, with a health worker describing treating severely malnourished children surviving on minimal food.
  • The UN reports that over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured attempting to access food at Israeli militarised aid distribution sites.
  • Aid organisations face significant challenges, including the forced closure of medical points and a lack of therapeutic supplements, while healthcare workers themselves are experiencing malnutrition.
  • MAP is urging world leaders, including the UK, to urgently intervene, stating that Israel's siege and military offensive are destroying the health system and starving the population.
