Scientists have issued a warning after two species of disease-carrying mosquitoes, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, were identified in the UK by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
These mosquitoes are vectors for serious illnesses such as dengue, yellow fever, chikungunya, and Zika, posing a significant public health threat across Europe.
Dengue symptoms are similar to flu and can include high temperature, severe headache, pain behind the eyes and muscle and joint pain.
Other signs include feeling or being sick, swollen glands and a blotchy rash on the body.
To prevent dengue, individuals are advised to protect themselves from mosquito bites using repellent, wearing protective clothing, and considering vaccination if travelling to regions where the virus is prevalent.
