Health minister Ashley Dalton, MP for West Lancashire, has opened up about her diagnosis with incurable metastatic breast cancer last summer.
Ms Dalton was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, entering remission for a decade before the cancer returned and spread.
Despite her ongoing treatment, she continues her work, including developing Labour’s "10-year cancer plan".
She said that people with metastatic cancer should not be expected to cease working, highlighting the significance of her job to her sense of purpose.
She said Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer offered support following her diagnosis and invited her to lead the national cancer plan, which aims to enhance survival rates and is expected before Christmas.
