Most and least expensive areas to rent in the UK revealed

How renting in London became an unimaginable hellscape
  • The average advertised rent across Britain reached a record high of £1,577 per month in August, according to Rightmove.
  • Average advertised rents were 3 per cent higher than a year earlier, with a constrained supply of homes contributing to the rising costs.
  • While the number of available homes to rent is 8 per cent higher than a year ago, it is still 27 per cent lower than in August 2019.
  • London remains the most expensive area to rent, whereas the North East is the cheapest.
  • Rents are rising fastest in North West England, with an approximate 10 per cent annual increase, and slowest in London, where they are up 2% annually.
