Another Western power to recognise a Palestinian state

Australia will recognise a Palestinian state, as announced by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The formal recognition is scheduled to take place at the United Nations General Assembly in September.
Albanese stated that the decision is contingent on commitments from the Palestinian Authority, including no role for Hamas, demilitarisation of Gaza, and the holding of elections.
The Prime Minister asserted that a two-state solution represents humanity's “best hope” to end the cycle of violence and suffering in the Middle East.
Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu criticised Australia's move, while New Zealand indicated it would also consider recognising a Palestinian state by September.
