Jobs at risk as grocery chain prepares to close UK stores

  • Amazon is set to close all 19 of its Amazon Fresh grocery stores across the UK, putting up to 250 jobs at risk.
  • Up to five of these till-less stores, which launched in 2021, will be converted into Whole Foods Market outlets.
  • This move is part of a wider overhaul of Amazon's UK grocery operations, shifting focus towards its online business.
  • The company is consulting with affected employees and plans to offer them new roles within other parts of the business.
  • Amazon also intends to double Prime members' access to grocery options via partners and introduce fresh groceries to Amazon.co.uk from next year.
