ChatGPT has received its first major update in years with the release of GPT-5 by OpenAI.
The new GPT-5 model is available to all 700 million ChatGPT users and includes upgrades such as integrating different models and improved performance in areas like software writing, health, and finance.
OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, described GPT-5 as akin to a 'PhD-level expert,' particularly highlighting its ability to generate instantaneous software.
While early reviewers found GPT-5 impressive for coding and problem-solving, they noted that the improvement from GPT-4 was not as significant as previous generational leaps.
OpenAI is particularly emphasising GPT-5's application in businesses, with Microsoft also planning to integrate the system across its products.
