Second Danish airport closes due to drone sightings
Airport shut down following ‘unidentified’ drone spotting
- Aalborg airport in Denmark was closed due to drone sightings, just two days after a similar incident shut down Copenhagen airport.
- Danish police are investigating the drone activity at Aalborg, which affected four flights, with Eurocontrol imposing a “zero rate” for air traffic until Thursday morning.
- Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described the Copenhagen airport shutdown as a “serious attack on critical Danish infrastructure” and did not rule out Russian involvement.
- Oslo airport in Norway also experienced a three-hour closure on Monday evening due to a drone sighting, resulting in the arrest of two foreign nationals.
- Norwegian and Danish authorities are in close contact regarding the incidents, which follow a cyber attack that affected hundreds of flights at Heathrow airport in the UK.
