When you should consult a GP about Alzheimer’s

Simple brainwave test could detect Alzheimer’s years before diagnosis
  • A new brainwave test, Fastball, which uses EEG technology, could detect early memory issues linked to Alzheimer’s disease.
  • A study involving 106 participants found that individuals with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI) showed significantly weaker responses to the Fastball test.
  • Common early signs of Alzheimer’s can include memory problems, difficulties with thinking and reasoning, and struggles with language. As well as mood changes, such as increased anxiety or withdrawal, and altered perception, like difficulty judging distances.
  • Experts say seeking an early diagnosis from a GP is crucial for more effective symptom management, future planning, and improving the quality of life for individuals and their families.
  • Anyone concerned about changes in memory, communication, personality or behaviour should consult a GP as soon as possible, so that other conditions with similar symptoms can be ruled out.
