Barcelona opens metro ‘ghost stations’ to the public
Visitors to this popular European city can now visit unused metro stations for first time
- Barcelona's unused metro stations, known as 'ghost stations', will open to the public for the first time this autumn.
- Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) is offering free access to these and other heritage sites as part of its centenary celebrations.
- The Gaudí station, built in 1968 but never put into service, and the Correos station, operational from 1934 to 1972, are key attractions.
- Other accessible sites include the old Urquinaona spiral staircase, the Santa Eulàlia workshop, and the Mercat Nou electrical substation.
- TMB is providing 5,033 free tickets for these visits, which commenced on 13 September and will continue throughout October and November.
