The BBC has commissioned two new six-episode seasons of the hit crime drama Peaky Blinders, continuing the story of the Shelby family.
This announcement is a surprise, as the original series was believed to have concluded with its sixth season finale in 2022.
The new seasons will follow a fresh generation of Shelbys in post-Second World War Birmingham, with creator Steven Knight promising a “hell of a ride”.
While cast members are yet to be announced, Cillian Murphy, who starred as Tommy Shelby, is confirmed as an executive producer for the new series.
The forthcoming seasons will air on BBC One in the UK and be available globally on Netflix, though a release date has not yet been confirmed.
