Sir: Your report "Panic in Devon as 800 cut by razor shells" (10 August) comments that the unusually low tide was due to hot weather. The low tides found all around the coast of the UK last weekend are entirely predictable and more to do with the moon than the sunny hot weather. Such tides are called "spring tides".
